Day 116: Spain Day 10

Friday, September 16, 2016

I woke up around 8:30 in a bedroom where one side had a window that I could hear rowdy vendors setting up for the Friday market, and the other side was literally a cave wall, painted, and sloping upward.  So cool.
We ate fried eggs and Nocilla toast on the gorgeous house terrace, complete with chairs, a table, a hanging plant, and a washing machine.

Our house was on the main street

V and I's bedroom, complete with cave wall

Market
We bought quite a few things at the relatively small market: a few shirts, pajamas, socks, athletic shorts.  Then we shopped around Setenil, walking up the never-ending hills and taking tons of pictures.  Setenil is known for building its compact houses into smooth cliffs that are found in the area.

Lunch
SO GOOD, consisting of a copious amount of tapas.
Anchovies in vinegar

Tostada with cream cheese, smoked salmon, and honey

Chicken kebabs and fries

Callos, or tripe soup

Madrid
We left Setenil sad to have spent such little time there, but excited for two full days in Madrid.  We got to Madrid around 10:30 pm or so after a ton of time spent trying to find parking.  The host met us outside and walked with us up 4 flights of stairs (until you can´t walk up anymore) to the apartment.  Beams, a loft, a gorgeous desk that my dad immediately called dibs on, a kitchen with a huge wall clock, and a wonderful loft. There were tons of mirrors, a floating staircase going up to the nook and cranny loft, and some really interesting artwork (the owner of this apartment is an artist living in San Diego).  One of the pieces of art is by her: a beautiful painting of a Las Meninas doll that´s actually in the living room, with the bow and sash of her dress made of tiny colorful clothespins.

Allo Pizza
I surfed the web for pizza delivery (we had seen in the crazy traffic that there was a fair amount of pizza delivery bikemen), but then discovered some pizza places really close to the apartment.
We ended up walking two minutes up the street before I spotted the pizza place I had seen online. We ordered a few delicious-looking slices and took the goods back to our apartment.

After eating the wonderfully delicious pizza, I crashed on the memory foam bed in the loft.
