In the Getaria hotel Iribar, I got up at 9:30 this morning, a fact helped by the old church bells that sounded every quarter hour to let you know to get your butt up or else suffer from restless sleep anytime after 7 am. It didn't help that the beautiful 14th century church is literally right next to the hotel.
We walked around the old part of town looking for a place with fried eggs and fries; my dad's craving of the morning (and mine). We finally walked into a cafe/restaurant that had some good American and Beatles hits playing. The cooks told us that she could make whatever we wanted. So, delicious fries, fried eggs, and fried jamon serrano came right up.
We spent a little bit walking around the town, looking at the really expensive shops. The shops had changed as the town had: more touristy. A carver's shop was gone, but we asked the guy at the tourist shop that had taken its place if the artist was still around. He said he still works and paints and sculpts for an exhibition and to sell. He was coming later to put some paintings in the store actually, and we could come and see him if we wanted. So, that was something to look forward to.
After exploring a little longer and chilling, we all went to the chapel where my mom, sister, and I had found an adorable black and white kitten mewling for his mother and not wanting anything to do with humans. We won him over, at least a little bit, by giving him some left over jamon serrano through the dull wrought iron gate of the 12th century ruins.

At 5 we went to see the artist from 6 years ago (when we were last here). He showed us his Chinese ink paintings of Getaria, and the oil ones he was going to display in his old shop-turned-touristy. That was the commercial side of his work, and he said in his workshop and exhibit two towns over that he had his personal side of his work. He talked to us for about 20 minutes in much passion and description. Then, he offered to give us a tour of his workshop the next day!
We ate dinner at The Mayflower, a nice restaurant that we had eaten an amazing meal at the last time we were here. I ate calamare, clams, and a tuna and tomato salad. Vanessa ate a fish so white it looked like part of the plate, but it was delicious and flavorful. Cheesecake and chocolate mousse for dessert :).
